So it Begins, Final Fantasy I

For those who havnt played these gamese beforewarned that I will be including plot and gameplay information in my blog. if you are not wanting to know them I would suggest not reading the plot summary.

Final Fantasy I 1987:

Originally made for Nintendo and later released on multiple systems.

Plot:
Game takes place in a fantasy world with 3 large continents. The elements on this world are governed by the 4 elemental orbs, earth, wind, fire and water. This world is enhabbited by numerous races Humans, Elves, Dwarfs, Mermaids, Dragons and Robots.
400 years prior to the start of the game, the Lefeinish people who used Wind to craft airships and a giant space station (called the Floating Castle) watched their country decline as the Wind Orb went dark. 200 years later violent storms sank a massive shrine that served as the center of an ocean based civilization, and the Water Orb went dark. The Earth and Fire Orb's fell in suite. Some time later the Sage Lukahn tells of a prophecy that 4 Warriors of Light will come to save the world in a time of darkness.
The game begins with the appearance of 4 youthfull Light Warriors (LW), the heroes of the story who each carry one of the darkened orbs.
Initially the LW have access t othe Kingdom of Coneria, and the Ruined Temple of the Fiends. After the LW's rescue the Princess Sara from the Dark Knight Garland, the King of Coneria builds a bridge that enables the LW's passage to the town of Pravoka. The LW libberate this town from Bikke and his gang of Pirates, aquiring the use of their ship. The LW's then embark on a series of delivery quests on the shores of the Aldi Sea. First retreving a Crown from the Marsh Cave, for a King in a ruined Castle, who infact turnes out to be the Dark Elf Astos, defeating him gains them a Crystal, in which they return this to the Witch Matoya in exchanged for an herb. This herb is needed to awaken the Elf Prince cursed by Astos. The Elf Prince then gives the LW a key capable of unlocking any door. The Key unlocks a storage room in Coneria Castle which holds TNT. Nerrick on of the Dwarfs of the Cave of Dwarf/Dwarf Village, destroys a small isthumus using the TNT, connecting the Aldi Sea to the outside world.
After visiting the near ruined town of Melmond, the LW's go to Earth Cave to defeat a vampire to retrieve the Star Ruby, which gains them passage to Sage Sarda's Cave. With Sarda's Rod, the LW's venture deeper into the Earth Cave and destroy the Earth Fiend, Lich. They then obtain a canoe and enter Gurgu Volcano and defeat the Fire Fiend, Kary. The Floater from the nearby Ice Cave allows them to raise an Airship to reach the Northern Continents. After they prove there courage by retreving the Rat's Tain from the Castle Ordeal, the King of Dragons Bahamut (pronounced Ba-Ha-Moot for later reference), promotes each Warrior. Using an air producing fairy artifact known as the Oxyale, the LW's defeat the Water Fiend, Kraken in the Sunken Shrine, they also recover a Slab which allows a Linguist named Dr. Unne to teach the Lefeinish language. The Lefeinish then give th LW's access to the Floating Castle that Tiamat the Wind Fiend has taken over. With the 4 Fiends defeated, and Orbs restored, a portal to 2000 years in the past opens in the Temple of Fiends. There the LW's discover the 4 Fiends sent Garland (now the archdemon Chaos) back in time, and Chaos sent the Fiends to the future to do so, creating a time loop by which he could live forever. The LW's defeat Chaos thus ending the paradox, and return home. By ending the paradox the LW's have changed the future to one where their heroic deeds from there own time remain unknow outside of legend.

So here we have the start of the legacy. An intricate storyline interlaced with gameplay. The gameplay had 4 game modes. The overworld map, town and dungeon maps, a battle screen and a menu screen.
The Overworld Map is a scaled down version of the games fictional world, which is how the characters got from place to place. They could do this by means of on foot, canoe, ship (watercraft), and airship. It was by walking around in Overworld Map or Dungeons that enimes were encountered at random, one could even be attacked while in the canoe, or the ship, the exception being while on the airship. When an enemy is encountered it must either be fought, or the party must flee.
The game begins by choosing 4 characters to form what will be called the Party, these 4 will be the party for the duration of the game.
The plot develops as the player progresses through towns and dungeons. Town citizens provide the player with needed information, as well as shops where items and equipment can be perchased. Items such as the necessary healing potion, tents, cabins, and houses which all either heal the players HP or hit points, this is there health bar, or MP or magic points, used to cast magic in the game. Equipment such as weapons or armor, needed to strengthen the characters. Dungeons appear in areas that include forests, caves, moutains, swamps, underwater caverns & buildings. They often include treasure chests containing rare items, not available in stores.
The menu screen allows players to manage experience points and levels. Equip gear and use items and magic. Character levels range from 1-50 and is gained by gaining experience. Gaining a level increases the characters stats, such as HP and defence. Experience is gained by winning battles.
Combat is menu based, the player selects an action from a list of options such as Fight, Magic and Item. Battles are Turn Based, and continue till the battle is won or the party flees.
If the party wins, each character gains experience and gold. If they flee, the party is returend to the world map, and if the party dies, its game over. FF was the first game to show the characters on the right side of the screen and the enimies on the left, as opposed to a first person view.
Each Character has an occupation or class (job) with different attributes and abilities, abilities are either innate or can be aquired later. There are six classes: Fighter, Thief, Black Belt, Red Mage, White Mage, and lastly Black Mage.
Weapons and Armor are class specific, each character has eight item slots, 4 for weapons and 4 for armor.
These are the basics of the game play.

This is where the legacy started, while not the first in its class of RPG, turn based games. This is where the legacy of FF takes place, they continue on with specific elements that carry on into future titles.
This story is obviously very in depth, while the characters do not have specific names of there own, the 4 Warriors of Light still leave a memorable story in their wake. The villan Garland, the first in a long list of Villains to come, a selfish being longing to live forever not careing who he hurts in the process.
Things to keep in mind as we analyze the FF titles:
Turn Based System
Items
Equipment
Airships
Magic
Job (Classes)
Shops
Maps
